Mapplethorpe Revisited interest form
I have long admired Robert Mapplethorpe’s work. The way he balanced beauty and obscenity, the technical mastery of black and white tones, the lore surrounding a pioneering queer figure in photography. But like many artists who came before, there are issues and problems that come up. This project is a chance to communicate with a queer ancestor and use the language of dyke identity to make something new from something old.
This project will involve nudity and sexual content, but consent will be obtained at every juncture. It is just important to know that there will be explicit photographs in the project, so if inclusion in a body of work that is explicit does not feel comfortable, you should not agree to participate. ****not all participants will be nude or have any sexual content, but those kinds of photographs will be in the final product****
